It&rsquo;s a battle against particles. Most standard heating elements are a nightmare in these spaces. They off-gas or shed tiny micro-particles that you can&rsquo;t even see, but they&rsquo;ll absolutely wreck your wafers and optical components. We deal with this by sticking to high-purity fused quartz infrared (IR) lamps.</p> <h2 id="why-the-quartz-matters">Why the quartz matters</h2> <p>We use synthetic fused quartz for the envelope. Why? Because it can take a massive thermal shock without cracking. More importantly, it doesn&rsquo;t release those nasty volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when things get hot. Cheap tubes are usually made of low-grade glass. Those tend to flake or outgas, <a href="https://goldisgood.com">which</a> is the last thing you want. Our quartz is spec&rsquo;d so that nothing sheds—not even during the initial ramp-up.</p>
