
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 environment, you already know the headache. One tiny piece of dust or a stray bit of gas, and your whole batch of wafers is toast. The real killer? The heating elements. Most of them just aren’t built for this. They start shedding micro-particles or breaking down under heat, and suddenly your “clean” room isn’t so clean anymore. We figured out a way to stop that. We paired high-purity quartz IR lamps with specialized Teflon wiring. Simple, but it works. The secret is in the quartz We don’t use standard glass. We use synthetic, high-purity quartz for the lamp envelopes. Why? Because it keeps metal ions from drifting into your production zone. It’s also tough. You can cycle the heat up and down rapidly and these tubes won’t crack. Plus, they put out short-wave infrared radiation that hits the substrate directly. You don’t have to sit around waiting for things to “soak” in the heat. It’s fast. Dealing with the “invisible” stuff Then there’s the wiring. Most people use PVC or silicone, but those are a nightmare near heat sources. They melt. They release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Basically, they off-gas polymers right onto your wafers. That’s why we use PTFE (Teflon). It stays chemically quiet even when things get hot. No off-gassing. No contamination. And since we design these to be drop-in replacements for your current heater blocks, you don’t have to redesign your entire layout just to upgrade. A few things to watch out for Now, these IR lamps pack a punch. That instant heat is great, but it can be a bit too much if you aren’t careful. If your distance to the target is off by just a few millimeters, you’ll get hotspots. It’s a tight margin. You’ll want to double-check your PID controllers and make sure your cooling fans are actually beefy enough to keep those Teflon jackets from overheating. One last tip:**keep the wiring away from the quartz tube.**If they touch, the wire will burn out. Period. Just keep your spacing right and your shielding in place, and you’ll have a stable, clean run every time.
