
How we make 1500W heaters that won’t blind you
When you’re putting a heater in a bathroom or a gazebo, you’ve got a bit of a problem. People are standing right under it. You want them to feel warm, but you don’t want them feeling like they’re staring into a welding torch. That’s the tricky part: getting plenty of heat without that harsh, blinding glare that makes you want to squint. The light problem Most standard infrared lamps are just… bright. Too bright. They can actually feel like they’re “stinging” your eyes if you look up. We fixed this by messing with the light spectrum. We use specific quartz coatings and a different filament mix to push the energy toward the long-wave side of things. The result? You feel the warmth hitting your skin, but the light stays soft and mellow. No more squinting. Packing in the power We went with 1500W because if you’re sitting in a breezy gazebo, you need some real muscle to fight the draft. To make that work in a small space, we use a high-density tungsten filament inside a quartz envelope. It gets hot fast. Really fast. But since 1500W creates a lot of internal heat, we house the whole thing in aluminum. It acts as a heat sink so the outer casing doesn’t turn into an oven. Finding the sweet spot Here’s the thing about heat: there’s always a trade-off. That “soft” long-wave heat is much kinder to your eyes, but it doesn’t travel as far as the aggressive short-wave stuff. If you mount these in a massive, vaulted ceiling, the heat might just vanish before it ever reaches you. Keep them between 2.2 and 2.6 meters high. That’s where the magic happens. One last tip on the wiring Don’t just plug these into any old outlet. 1500W is a heavy lift. If you’re running a few of these on one line, you’ll probably trip your breakers—especially in an older house. Give them a dedicated circuit and make sure your wiring is thick enough to handle the load. It saves you a lot of headaches (and flickering lights) down the road.
