When you’re working in a Class 100 glovebox, heating isn’t just about getting things hot. It’s a fight against invisible junk. Most standard heaters are a nightmare in these environments. They off-gas or shed tiny, microscopic flakes that you can’t even see. But in a high-purity setup? That debris is a disaster. One bad flake and your entire batch is trash. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz infrared elements. Why quartz? It comes down to the materials. We use fused silica quartz because it just doesn’t leak. Cheap glass or metal-sheathed heaters tend to spit out volatile organic compounds (VOCs) the second they hit operating temperature. Our quartz tubes are cleaned of metallic impurities, so the heat moves via short-wave radiation. You get the warmth you need without dumping particles into your atmosphere. It’s clean. Simple. This keeps the tungsten filament from oxidizing and burning out too soon. One last tip for when you’re wiring these up: pay attention to your PID controller. Quartz has very low thermal mass, meaning it reacts almost instantly. If your controller overshoots, you’ll put a lot of stress on the tube.
